LESSONS AS SCOTLAND DECIDES TO REMAIN WITH UNITED KINGDOM

David William Donald Cameron
Scotland voted to stay in United Kingdom, rejecting independence after a referendum yesterday 18th September, 2014. The campaign to either stay on or secede from the United Kingdom has been on for about two years until they finally agreed to the referendum. A total of 1, 852, 822 votes casted amounted for 55% of those who voted "NO" and 45% of those who voted "YES". This is a result of 29 councils out of the 32 that makes up Scotland.

David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will make a public pronouncement today when all votes come in.

The beauty of this is, the people of Scotland have come to understand that there will be differences but it necessarily does not need to split them as both the YES and NO team have embraced both the result and one another.

David Cameron on his facebook page had this to say;
The people of Scotland have spoken. It is a clear result.
They have kept our country of four nations together.
Like millions of other people, I’m delighted.
As I said during the campaign, it would have broken my heart to see our United Kingdom come to an end.
And I know that sentiment was shared by people, not just across our country, but also around the world - because of what we've achieved together in the past and what we can do together in the future.
So now it is time for our United Kingdom to come together, and to move forward.
A vital part of that will be a balanced settlement - fair to people in Scotland, and importantly to everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as well.
Let us first remember why we had this debate - and why it was right to do so.
The Scottish National Party was elected in 2011 in Scotland and promised a referendum on independence.
We could have blocked that, we could have put it off - but just as with other issues, it was right to take - not duck - the big decision.
I am a passionate believer in our United Kingdom - I wanted more than anything for our United Kingdom to stay together.
But I am also a democrat. And it was right that we respected the SNP's majority in Holyrood and gave the Scottish people the right to have their say.
Let us also remember why it was right to ask the definitive question, Yes or No.
Because now the debate has been settled for a generation - or as Alex Salmond has said, perhaps for a lifetime.
So there can be no disputes, no re-runs - we have heard the settled will of the Scottish people.
Scotland voted for a stronger Scottish Parliament backed by the strength and security of the United Kingdom, and I want to congratulate the No campaign for that - for showing people that our nations really are better together.
I also want to pay tribute to Yes Scotland for a well-fought campaign, and to say to all those who did vote for independence: 'we hear you'.
We now have a chance - a great opportunity - to change the way the British people are governed, and change it for the better.
Political leaders on all sides of the debate now bear a heavy responsibility to come together and work constructively to advance the interests of people in Scotland, as well as those in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, for each and every citizen of our United Kingdom.
To those in Scotland sceptical of the constitutional promises made, let me say this: we have delivered on devolution under this Government, and we will do so again in the next Parliament.
The three pro-union parties have made commitments on further powers for the Scottish Parliament.
We will ensure that they are honoured.
And I can announce today that Lord Smith of Kelvin - who so successfully led Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games - has agreed to oversee the process to take forward the devolution commitments, with powers over tax, spending and welfare all agreed by November and draft legislation published by January.
Just as the people of Scotland will have more power over their affairs, so it follows that the people of England, Wales and Northern Ireland must have a bigger say over theirs.
The rights of these voters need to be respected, preserved and enhanced as well.
It is absolutely right that a new and fair settlement for Scotland should be accompanied by a new and fair settlement that applies to all parts of the United Kingdom.
In Wales, there are proposals to give the Welsh Government and Assembly more powers.
And I want Wales to be at the heart of the debate on how to make our United Kingdom work for all our nations.
In Northern Ireland, we must work to ensure that the devolved institutions function effectively.
I have long believed that a crucial part missing from this national discussion is England.

We have heard the voice of Scotland - and now the millions of voices of England must not go ignored.
The question of English votes for English laws - the so-called West Lothian question - requires a decisive answer.
So, just as Scotland will vote separately in the Scottish Parliament on their issues of tax, spending and welfare, so too England, as well as Wales and Northern Ireland, should be able to vote on these issues - and all this must take place in tandem with, and at the same pace as, the settlement for Scotland.
I hope that is going to take place on a cross-party basis. I have asked William Hague to draw up these plans.
We will set up a Cabinet Committee right away and proposals will also be ready to the same timetable.
I hope the Labour Party and other parties will contribute.
It is also important we have wider civic engagement about how to improve governance in our United Kingdom, including how to empower our great cities - and we will say more about this in the coming days.
This referendum has been hard fought. It has stirred strong passions. It has electrified politics in Scotland, and caught the imagination of people across the whole of our United Kingdom.
It will be remembered as a powerful demonstration of the strength and vitality of our ancient democracy.
Record numbers registered to vote and record numbers cast their vote.
We can all be proud of that.
It has reminded us how fortunate we are that we are able to settle these vital issues at the ballot box, peacefully and calmly.
Now we must look forward, and turn this into the moment when everyone - whichever way they voted - comes together to build that better, brighter future for our entire United Kingdom.

Ritualist buy woman for N800,000.00 from husband

A middle aged man Maimako Shephang in plateau state allegedly sold his wife to ritualist for the sum of  N800,000. Luck ran out on him when the ritualist did not consider the wife good enough for the rituals

Maimako had tricked his wife out of the house with an excuse to fetch firewood at the farm when he led her into the arms of the ritualist. The unsuspecting wife met the ritualist thinking they were friends to her husband. As luck was on the side of the wife the ritualist interrogated her before the ritual and found she was not suitable for the rituals, apparently they wanted a virgin for the rituals but she was married (and deflowered) already.

When asked about the person that brought her she replied” it is my husband”, shock and outraged, the ritualist told the wife that the husband brought her to be used for ritual, that her husband has duped them knowing fully that only a virgin is suitable for that purpose. They let the wife go and she raised an alarm when she got home, this attracted the attention of police officer and the case was taken up, Maimako and one of the ritualist have been arrested, Plateau state commissioner of police, Nosiru made this known while addressing news men he further said that arrest was made on the 30th of August, 2014 by 11:00pm and the woman is indeed lucky to be alive.

Work for mozilla

Maimako however confessed to the crime and said that it was the act of the devil. He claimed that he still love his wife dearly and he had returned part payment he got (N400,000.00) to his contacts since the deal did not pull through, God help us .

IS IT A "YES" OR "NO" – SCOTTISH DECIDES SOVEREIGNTY TODAY

Scottish Flag
Scotland’s faith will be decided today as they go into a referendum to decide the faith of the country which is under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom.

Scotland is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom; others include Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales each have separate national governing bodies for sports and compete separately in many international sporting competitions like football, Olympics, Commonwealth Games among others. The United Kingdom is a sovereign state and as such is listed in International Organization for Standardization (ISO), England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not themselves listed in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) list of countries.

Scotland as at last census (2011) was about 5,295,000 in population with a land mass of 78,772km2, and a population density of 67.22 per km2. Its state capital is Edinburg and she practices the Scot law legal system.

However, the prime minister of England, Gordon Brown have pleaded with the people of Scotland  to remain in the family of United Kingdom. But stakeholders in the country agitating for their own sovereignty have argued that the time is ripe for them to stand alone.

Though a lot of questions on how Scotland will independently fund itself and survive as a sovereign state have come under strong criticism as the “NO ” group are skeptical about the whole process. The “YES” group however argued that Scottish and those residents in Scotland make up the larger percentage of the income tax for the UK.

Promise to keep you posted on the outcome of their referendum.

TENSION MOUNTS AS FASHOLA SEEKS SUCCESSOR (CONTINUED)

Senator Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS)
GOS as he popularly called was born on the 19th day of December, 1959 in Mushin to the Family of Alhaji Rafiu Ishola and Alhaja Idiat Abike Solomon (Née Oluwa).
He had his secondary education at the Oke-Ona Grammer School, Abeokuta, Ogun State between 1972 and 1976 and later proceeded to Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogusanya College of Education) from 1980 - 1982.  He obtained a B.SC in Political Science from the University of Lagos in 1985.
Senator Solomon had his National Youth Service Corps at the NYSC Secretariat in Abeokuta and finished in 1986. He took after his father, both in business and politics. He joined the family property and general merchandising business before venturing into politics.
His father Alhaji Rafiu Ishola Solomon, had considerable influence in Lagos Politics being a politician whose career spell spanned the Pre- Independence era to the Late 80's. The Late Politician, who was most active politically in Ikorodu area of the State as a Councilor in the 40's later grew stronger to become one of the few political godfathers in the state body politics.
His (GOS) first entry into politics was during the transition program of Late General  Sani Abacha in 1997 when he contested election into the Lagos State House of Assembly to represent Mushin 2 constituency on the platform of Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) and won in a landslide victory.  Unfortunately that era was short lived.

When the Nation return to democracy in 1999, Solomon aligned with the Progressives who had formed Alliance for Democracy(AD) in the South-West region of the Country. As a pioneer member of the party, he contested and won election as Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State where he displayed quality delivery of good governance at the grass root level.
By 2003, following his outstanding performance his people encouraged him to move up the ladder and he contested election into the House of Representatives where he represented Mushin 1 Federal Constituency for four years.

He served in the Following Committee's in the House;
  •         Committee on Internal Affairs.
  •      Committee on States and Local Government.

By the following election year, 2007 to be precise, GOS proceeded to the Senate where he represented the largest district in Lagos State and indeed Nigeria (LAgos South West Senatorial district). He had barely settled down in the Senate, when he was handed the responsibility of overseeing the Senate Committee on Capital Market. This responsibility, though huge, had brought to fore, the ingenuity and intelligence of the lawmaker, who despite the many crises that plagued the market, came out untainted.

He also served in the following Committee's
  • Committee on Capital Market (Chairman)
  • Committee on Sports and Social Development
  • Committee's on Works
  • Committee Rules and Business

In the run-up to the April 2011 elections., Solomon was unopposed in his bid to seek re-election in his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria. Factors responsible for this were not farfetched because he had upped the status of his party as well as improved his rating as an individual. He was, unsurprisingly re-elected on the 9th of April, 2011.
Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon is presently the Minority Whip of the Senate till date.
He is a member of the under listed Committee's;
  • Selection Committee
  • Committee on Petroleum Upstream
  • Committee on Navy
  • Committee on Constitution Review
  • Committee on Capital Market
  • Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs
His Legislative agenda and interests include, Poverty alleviation, Social Security, Education, Employment Generation, Security and Providing Legislative Framework for meeting MDG'S.

AKINWUNMI AMBODE
Akinwunmi Ambode

If you Google the word “ambode”, you are likely to come across “Ambode is one of the main side dishes prepared during festivals and for many happy occasions in Karnataka. It is a type of fried lentil ball, flavoured with curry leaves, coconut, and asafetida”.

But we are talking about a human here, a Nigerian for that matter, a Lagosian per excellence (as claimed), Akinwunmi Ambode’s name first went viral when the Oba of Lagos (Oba Rilwan Akiolu) declared him as the in-coming governor for Lagos state after Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s two-term tenure ends.

Akinwunmi Ambode is an Accountant (Chartered), Administrator, Public Finance expert, a retired Civil Servant who served Lagos State meritoriously for 27years; holding key positions across all cadres of the state’s civil service such as the Auditor General for Local Governments, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Accountant General of Lagos State.

After his retirement from the Civil Service at 49, he established Brandsmiths Consulting Limited – a public finance and management-consulting firm with a deep knowledge of the Nigerian public sector. He serves as the Managing Consultant/CEO and has used his wealth of experience and social network to build alliances that will establish Brandsmiths as a world-class professional services provider, engaging in strategic planning, operations improvement, business planning and public financial management. The firm and its associates are presently working with State and Federal government agencies to cut-over to the new IPSAS system of public
accounting which takes effect from 2014.

He graduated with Honours in Accounting from the University of Lagos at the age of 21. At 24, he had become a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and finished a Masters degree in Accounting specializing in Financial Management, also at the University of Lagos, via a Federal Government Scholarship. He also received a US Fulbright scholarship for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship at Boston University in Massachusetts.
  • He is an alumnus of Wharton Business School Advance Management Programme.
  • He has attended courses at renowned institutions such as Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield, England,
  • The Institute of Management Development Lausanne, Switzerland,
  • INSEAD Singapore and
  • The Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Boston, USA.
He is passionate about Lagos, developing young leaders and professionals and contributing to the society from which he has gained so much.

A sound professional record, yes, but he has a lineage issue to clarify, shortly after Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Lagos monarch openly endorsed him at a book presentation in the state and having corroborated Ambode's claim of being of the Edu family of Epe, Head of the Buraimo Edu family, which he claimed to belong, said the family do not know him as one of them. In a press release signed by Alhaji M. Oladeinde Edu and Alhaji T. A. Edu, this was done in a press release, read extract below;

"At this juncture, we can categorically state here that in actual fact, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode was a son of Festus Akinwale Ambode, one of the teachers posted to Epe in the old Western Region; a native of Ilaje Ese Odo in the present day Ondo State.

“As a school teacher, the elder Ambode was very familiar and friendly with several Epe indigenes. The older Ambode came to Epe through the waterways. He came with his wife, Christianah Oluleye Ambode (nee Oresanya), who though initially did not stay with him which made the older Ambode marry a second wife, an Epe daughter, popularly called ‘Iya Vice’ from Poka, Epe.

“She was a food seller in Epe Grammar School. This development led to Akinwunmi Ambode’s mother who also hails from Ilaje Ese Odo in Ondo State to eventually relocate to Epe to stay with her husband," the Edu family said, setting the records straight.

The Edu family further added that at death, the corpse of Ambode's father was conveyed back to Ilaje, Ondo State for burial as a prince of his area.

Meanwhile, Ambode responded by directing those investigating his roots to two of the royal fathers who had reportedly confirmed that he was not just from Epe but a member of the Edu family. He cited the Olu of Epe, and the Alara of Ara, who had been on the throne for the past 54 years as confirming it as well as Akiolu. And that’s it!

He has this hurdle to cross but I wish him well in his endeavours.

Please let me take a pause before we consider these other competent candidates too Commisioner Muiz Banire, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa and Tola Kasali
