AN ENCOUNTER WITH SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU

Isa Gusau writes...
Senator Oluremi Tinubu

While in Lagos four days ago, I saw and monitored something really strange in Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But before going into that Wednesday, November 25, 2015 experience, let me share that I hail from Zamfara State even though passionately working in Borno State. I’m a young journalist by education and profession, have practiced in the north and the southern parts of Nigeria for a major Newspaper.

I’m so proud of my profession. Given my kind of job, I have met different categories of persons from those at the bottom to those at the top whether as news makers, news sources, witnesses or for social and other human interactions.
For the purpose of this small piece, I want to make reference to my interactions with VIPs, the ‘Ogas at the top’.

Some times, VIPs or important personalities as one may choose to call them, invite journalists to their homes to grant interviews or hold press briefings while in not too often cases, the journalists themselves request for interviews at homes of VIPs or to source information that can make or add up to major news items.

These mostly happen during weekends, outside working hours or when VIPs want to avoid office interferences. Now, in the course of meeting these VIPs, I had at different times come across their wives too.

One common feature in the wives of many VIPs is their display of authority. One minute contact with them tells you they own the house because as they step out, everyone around feels uneasy. Some, if not many wives of VIPS represent fear and danger.

They are regarded as angels of death by domestic helps i.e drivers, cooks, gardeners, cleaners and aides to the boss himself. Visitors tend to avoid wives of VIPs except certain class of visitors that are very well known to the VIPs’ wives. Many times, wives of VIPs as I have seen them, are emperors.

They harass aides and house helps with commands that are designed to make aides develop running stomach. They are feared so much that house helps celebrate when they travel or stay out for long.

However, I have also come across some very humble and hospitable wives of VIPs. One of them is the wife of former Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Maina Waziri.

That woman is completely humble and kind from my point of view. I met her three times: in 2006, 2007 and 2010. But three days ago, I saw something entirely different in another VIP’s wife.

On return to Lagos last Wednesday, after traveling to Ikenne for the funeral of H.I.D Awolowo earlier in the day, six Governors, Kashim Shettima of Borno, Yari of Zamfara, Tambuwal of Sokoto and their colleagues from Jigawa, Kebbi and Cross River followed national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to his residence at Bourdillion road in Ikoyi.

I was there as an aide to Governor Shettima without knowing I would be compelled to write this piece.

Soon after the bus conveying the dignitaries arrived Asiwaju’s residence, I saw Senator Oluremi Tinubu rushing out of the bus, walking fast almost with so much focus, it was clear she had something in mind. She walked ahead of her husband and all the Governors. She was wearing a light blue wrapper with pictures of the late H.I.D Awolowo which was worn by majority of sympathizers at the funeral.

It was ‘Aso-ebi’ (ceremonial uniform, usually for one occasion). Asiwaju followed up and stepped into the house alongside the six Governors. While the Governors went into an inner
parlor beyond the main and bigger living room, I saw Mrs Oluremi Tinubu went straight to the dining area located by the left side on entering the main living room. Without even changing into normal dress, away from the ‘Ashiobi’, the first thing she did was to start cleaning dishes, I watched her cleaned over ten dishes without any ‘ajebota-like-attitude’.

Then, she started rearranging food items set by aides on the dining table.

I took exceptional notice of how she was working with house helps, I saw so much willingness, freedom and excitement on the faces of those helps. I noticed that whenever she wanted to ask them to do anything at all, she would start by saying, ‘jowo’ – the Yoruba way of saying ‘please’ and after they did anything she asked them to do, she repeatedly and naturally said, ‘O se’ meaning ‘thank you’. She effectively combined humility, politeness and efficiency in managing her home. In less than five minutes of her arrival, Oluremi had set the table.

One Governor I wouldn’t mention, sneaked onto the dining table very quickly. Asiwaju sighted him and jokingly said, “Your Excellencies, one Governor is cheating all of us on the dining table”. The Governors happily and I say, so freely, walked to the dining area onto the waiting cheerfulness of Mrs Tinubu who practically left no one in doubt that she was very excited to serve. She coordinated the lunch with so much passion like you would think of a typical and very dedicated and polite Nigerian woman that manages her own restaurant and doing everything to satisfy customers.

My initial thought was that Mrs Tinubu was being dutiful to her husband’s special guests but then I saw her carry about four used glasses.

Do you know who used those glasses she picked? She actually picked them from the visitors’ waiting parlour which was by the right after a security scanner and those glasses were used by security aides to Governors. She insisted on picking the glasses even when the security aides were hesitant. Importantly, one could see that she was not faking her actions, she was unconsciously being herself.

For almost two hours, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu walked around doing things herself and cheerfully directing her aides to meet the needs of guests. Oluremi was everywhere including outside asking if food was served drivers and police escorts.

I saw her around 2:55pm carrying a tray with tea cups and saucers. She went into an inner parlour with the tray.  She must have gone to serve the Governors and her husband. I noticed also that she took special interest in serving and interacting with a Senator from Borno State who was there with the Governor.

Oluremi was obviously passionate about her colleague in the Senate. After she had served tea, I spotted her talking to one of her house helps asking him to serve everyone another round of drinks.

As she gave them tasks, I could see that the workers were happy with her. Some of them were even teasing her. She was behaving like a mother in the midst of her loving adult children on a happy day.

The interaction between Oluremi and her aides was something so uniquely interesting.

While still admiring OLUREMI hospitality that Wednesday, a senior aide to Governor Shettima told me about his previous encounter with the former Lagos first lady and wife to one of Nigeria’s most influential politicians, on Saturday, February 8, 2014.

“If you remember, we came here with Oga (Governor Shettima) in 2014, in the build up to the 2015 elections when Asiwaju invited Oga here for a meeting.

We (aides to the Governor) were sitted here at the parlor and to our surprise, she (Oluremi Tinubu) came and personally served each of us with refreshments. We were shocked given the fact that her husband was actually the bigger boss as leader of the APC which is the party of our boss who was going for second term election. That day we came, her messengers were playing with her and she was so free with them.

The woman is just down to earth,” he said to me. As I ran through the qualities in Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, I concluded that Asiwaju’s great sense of judgment transcends politics because it takes so much wisdom for a man not only to marry a good woman but for the same man to be rich and powerful, yet have his wife retain her humility and Africanness even in the midst of wealth, power and influence that is known to have ruined many.

AMBODE SPEND OVER #4 BILLION ON SECURITY

The LASG under the leadership of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode today at the governors' office inaugurated security equipments and handed over to the Nigeria police, Lagos State command. The minister for interior, Gen. Abdul-Rahman Danbazau represented president Muhammadu Buhari at the event and did the official launching.

This gesture was in response to series of security breaches in the state lately, notable among  them are incessant robbery in traffic, the Festac bank robbery  and more recently the bank robbery at Agbara, a border town between Lagos and Ogun State.

The governor through his media team gave an insight into equipment bought and the total amount it gulped. A snap shot of his Facebook page reveals:

NLC, TUC THREATENS TO GO ON STRIKE AND GRIND THE COUNTRY IF...

NLC led by their president Waaba

NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Waaba

The Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have both threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action should the Nigeria governors make true their position to effect a downward review of the meagre N18,000 minimum wage as agreed by the government and union leaders on behalf of the government workers.

Speaking at the African Industrialisation Day and  reconciliation meeting for the NLC held in Abuja yesterday, 20th of November, 2015, NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) warned the governors not to precipitate another round of industrial unrest, vowing to mobilise Nigerian workers against the move.

This was in a reaction to the pronouncement made by the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, that the N18,000 minimum wage was no longer sustainable, given the slide in the monthly allocation arising from the fall in petroleum prices.

NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, who spoke at the sidelines of the reconciliation meeting of the Union in Abuja, said rather than contemplate a downward review of the minimum wage, state governors should shun frivolous spending, cut down on their retinue of aides and security votes.
According to Wabba, the Labour Centre would mobilise Nigerian workers to grind the country’s economy aground should the governors succeed in the downward review of the legally biding minimum wage.
He said: “Let me use this platform to respond to the uncharitable proposition of the state governors on the minimum wage issue. Labour is not the problem. The point to be made is that they have not been able to reduce the cost of governance. They should go and reduce their security votes.
“Let them also cut down on the number of their entourage. They must also be accountable to the citizens that voted them into power. We are going to resist any attempt to tamper with the payment under any guise. Let them also note that the N18,000 minimum wage was not allocated; it was negotiated through a tripartite process and it is a product of law that is even due for review. We are going to champion the review.
“Let us also put them on notice. If attempt is made to reduce, review or do anything outside the legal  minimum wage of N18,000, which cannot even take us home, we are going to resist it. Nigerian workers will be mobIlised to resist”, Wabba said.
Also, in a statement jointly signed by the TUC President, Mr. Bobboi Kaigama and the Secretary General, Mr. Musa Lawal, the union described as laughable, the position of the governors on the minimum wage issue.
It said: “What baffles any Nigerian is that the governors assert that the minimum wage was ‘imposed.’ We are all living witnesses to the processes the last minimum wage negotiation took.
“There was a tripartite meeting, involving government at all levels, employers (through Nigeria’s Employers Consultative Association NECA) and the organised labour.
“One will say that the negotiation that took place fulfilled International Labour Organisation (ILO) standard of tripartism, after which the National Assembly enacted the new Minimum Wage Bill to law. And now, our leaders, the governors, short of suffering from total amnesia, are talking of imposition.”

Meanwhile,  the EDO State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole seems to be on a different page with other governors as he disagreed with the decision of some governors to reduce the existing N18,000 minimum wage.
Speaking in Abuja at the reconciliation meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oshiomhole said collecting N18, 000 in 31 days is low enough and any decision to lower it because of low allocation to states from the federation account cannot justify the criminality of such an action.
He said: “I believe that the issues in the economy have got nothing to do with minimum wage. I always remind my colleagues that the minimum wage was not imposed. It was negotiated; state governments agreed to it, the President at the time signed it, not under duress.
“When you look at the minimum wage as it is today, at N18, 000, it less than $100. When that is divided by 31 days, it comes to less than $2 a day. It cannot be argued that workers in the formal sector in Nigeria must not earn $2 per day.
“I would not subscribe to that because at the heart of governance is the welfare of the people.”
Oshiomhole was quick to explain that there are indeed issues about the management capacity in the economy and looting of the economy, which went unchallenged by institutions, such as the labour movement.
“I have been loud about the massive looting of our collective patrimony. My only complain is that the NLC’s voice was not loud when it mattered. There was a criminal silence on the part of the NLC when the looting was going on,” he said.
Meanwhile, organised labour has voiced its readiness to mobilise against attempt by any state governor to reduce the minimum wage.

PRESIDENT BUHARI'S SPEECH AT THE SWEARING-IN OF MINISTERS

President Muhammadu Buhari

Your Excellency, The Vice President;
Professor Yemi Osinbajo;
The Senate President, and the Hon. Speaker, House of Representatives;
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Justice Mahmoud Mohammed;
The National Chairman, All Progressive Congress, Chief John Oyegun;
National Leader of APC, Chief Bisi Akande;
Other APC Executive Committee Members here present;
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation;
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation;
Honourable Ministers;
Members of the Diplomatic Corps;
Members of the Press and Invited Guests.
Today we have reached another milestone in the evolution of our new government which Nigerians overwhelmingly voted into office in the March 28th, 2015 general elections. Today we witness the swearing-in of new ministers of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
2. Since our inauguration on May 29, 2015, the Vice President and I have been mindful of the need to constitute a cabinet that will best deliver our expectations of a better country than we inherited. We want to work towards a prosperous nation respected for the right reasons, and whose citizens can hold up their heads anywhere in the world. And we are optimistic that bringing this set of ministers into the service of our country today is a step in the right direction, a timely move towards realizing our positive goals for our country.
3. Since we assumed office in May, I have been mindful of the need to ensure that the appointment of new ministers translates into putting round pegs in round holes while showing sensitivity to our diversity as a people and our various positions as groups of stakeholders in our country.
4. I have also been conscious of the need not to repeat such mistakes of the past where the right people were allocated the wrong portfolios, which translated into their performing poorly to our collective detriment despite their obvious capabilities. Also, I have responded to the counsel to consult as widely as possible, given the need to build a stable and all-inclusive government by reaching across our various ethnic and political divides.
5. With the inauguration of ministers, our government shall continue more decisively to implement its policies in respect of the economy and in other areas. While working hard to maximise revenue from oil in the face of a sharp decline in the price for the commodity, we are determined to diversify the economy in agriculture to enhance employment and explore solid minerals as a major revenue earner.
6. The primary aim is to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of such staples as rice and wheat and to become a major consumer and exporter of both items as well as solid minerals. We intend to pursue policies that will generate massive employment for millions of our youth.
7. We shall also continue with greater determination and focus to pursue our goal of ensuring improved security for our country and its citizens, and without letting up on our fight against corruption. Our commitment to defeat Boko Haram and all the threats it constitutes remains as strong as ever. So is our resolve to root out vices such as kidnapping and neutralise the various forms of criminalities that threaten the social peace of Nigerians.
8. While recognizing the challenges we face and the need to surmount them, let us not fail to note the progress we have made in the short life of this government, as an indication of how much better we can do as a people driven by patriotism and a common resolve to do things right.
9. On the moral sphere, trust is slowly but steadily being re-established between the government and the people. Now, when the government speaks, the people listen; and when the people’s expectations are not met, they appreciate that it is not for lack of commitment or trying on the part of government. In effect, government business is now being conducted with transparency and cynicism is waning as a result.
10. Our adoption of the Treasury Single Account has resulted in the blocking of financial leakages in the public sector, making more funds available for the business of governance and ensuring the welfare of our citizens. The Central Bank of Nigeria has also assisted more than 30 States of the federation with concessionary loans to offset salary arrears for their workers. On the monetary side, the CBN has also implemented country-specific and innovative policies that have helped to stabilize the exchange rate and conserve our reserves.
11. Finally, our new ministers must proceed to work speedily and do their utmost to justify the confidence we have placed in them not only by their conduct but also by their performance in their various positions.
12. Over all our economy is poised for sustained job creation, poverty reduction and inclusive growth. Regardless of the present challenges we are confronting, I believe all Nigerians will keep hope alive and sustain their optimism about the future of our economic well being.
13. The Ministries have been rationalised and reduced to twenty-four. These are the Ministries and their Ministers.
These are the Ministries and their Ministers Ministers and their portfolio

NATIONAL JUDICIAL COMMISION SACKS JUSTICE MAMBO AKANBI FOR MISCONDUCT

Justice Mambo Akanbi become famous when he delivered the judgement at a Federal High Court sitting in Portharcourt that dismissed 22 Local Government Chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
His dismissal was contained in a letter sent yesterday by the National Judicial Commision to him.
Recall that Justice Lambo Akanbi was accused by the 22 APC local government Chairmen of collecting N100 Million bribe from governor Nyesom Wike to sack them from office.
The NJC Investigated the accusation after Justice Akanbi delivered the Controversial judgement which ordered the 22 APC chairmen to vacate office,and found it to be true, and this necessitated his sack.

LADIES - HOW TO TELL IF YOU HAVE AN UNHEALTHY VIGINA

The average lady sometime do not pay adequate attention to herself,  taking for granted some signs that may lead to serious complications within the body system. Self examination on the body is a good way to tell and a sign that there is a possible medical attention to seek.

The vagina is a very sensitive part of the female body,  both to her and her partner,  so if you notice any of the following signs,  it is advisable to visit a medical practitioner as soon as possible.

1. Dryness
You need to get a checkup if your vagina is dry for excessive amounts of time, as it needs moisture to balance out. The only time constant dryness is acceptable is if you are over the age of 50 (or you probably have hit the menopause stage).

2. Unwholesome Discharge
Any form of excessive discharge (no matter the colour) means you should RUN to the doctors.

3. Bad/Foul smell
If you constantly observe a foul smell when using the bathroom and does not go away after taking a shower...you have a problem. This is the biggest sign that your vagina should be checked.

4. Burning or Itching effect
Itchiness or burning in any area of your body can scare you, and the pain is simply unbearable. This could be an STD, infection or multiple other illnesses.

5. Unusual Blood
If you see blood coming from your vagina when your are NOT on your period, you should consult your doctor.

6. Abdominal bleeding
A hormonal imbalance can cause abdominal bleeding which can be extremely dangerous and life threatening.

7. Bleeding after sex
The biggest sign of cervical cancer is bleeding after you've had sexual intercourse, so please keep an eye out after your'e sexually active.

Hope this helps.

PROTEST AS LAGOS SPEAKER NAMES COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN

LAHA Speaker -  Mudashiru Obasa

Hon. Olufunmilayo Tejuoso

The need to create a balance  between what a juicy committee is and otherwise is becoming a major issue amongst legislators in Nigeria.

From the Hallow Chambers of the Senate, to the house of Representatives and down to the state assemblies, juicy (and perhaps sour)  committees is becoming a major issue.

Just today,  there were protests on this afternoon at the Lagos State House of Assembly as a ranking member of the House and former Deputy Speaker, Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, rejected the chairmanship of a committee given her by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Though she openly rejected the chairmanship of the committee by making the announcement at the chamber, it was learnt that she is not alone in this protest.

The drama happened after the Majority Leader of the House had called for an adjournment till next week Monday because of the town hall meeting which all lawmakers would be holding with their constituents starting from Tuesday.

Just before he rose from his seat, the Speaker brought out a jotter in which the committees and the chairmen had been listed.

After reminding the lawmakers that he recently announced committees, Obasa emphasised the importance of oversight functions being part of the duties of the Assembly.

He disclosed that he was announcing the chairmen of the committees but advised that “the committees should be used in the interest of the government, the people, the state and the House and not for pecuniary reasons.”

He listed the committees and chairmen as follows:

•Selection Committee to be chaired by Speaker Obasa Mudashiru Ajayi

•Business Rules and Standing Orders chaired by Majority Leader Sanai Agunbiade

•Ethics, Protocols and Privileges to be chaired by Rotimi Abiru

•House Service to be chaired by Rasheed Makinde

•Public Accounts (State) to be chaired by Moshood Oshun

•Public Accounts (Local) to be chaired by Bisi Yusuff

•Agriculture to be chaired by Kazeem Raheem

•Economic Planning and Budget to be chaired by Rotimi Olowo

•Education to be chaired by Lanre Ogunyemi

•Science and Technology to be chaired by Nurudeen Solaja

•Establishment, Training and Pension to be chaired by Adedayo Famakinwa

•Energy and Mineral Resources to be chaired by Folajimi Mohammed

•Waterfront Infrastructure Development to be chaired by Gbolahan Yishawu

•Physical Planning and Urban Development to be chaired by Setonji Davide

•Transportation to be chaired by Fatai Mojeed

•Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives to be chaired by Oladele Adekanye

•Women Affairs and Poverty alleviation to be chaired by Moji Lawal

•Works and Infrastructure to be chaired by Tobun Abiodun

•Wealth Creation and Employment to be chaired by Sola Giwa

•Finance to be chaired by Yinka Ogundimu

•Health to be chaired by Segun Olulade

•Home Affairs to be chaired by Olayiwola Olawale

•Tourism, Arts and Culture to be chaired by Desmond Olusola Elliot

•Youths and Social Development to be chaired by Kasunmu Adedamola

•Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions, LASIEC to be chaired by Adefunmilayo Tejuoso.

•Lands to be chaired by Bayo Oshinowo

•Housing to be chaired by Ibrahim Layode

•Information and Strategy to be chaired by Tunde Buraimoh

•Central Business District to be chaired by Victor Akande

•Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations to be chaired by Sokunle Hakeem

•Local Government and Community Affairs to be chaired by Kazeem Alimi

After the announcement, the Speaker said: “these are the committees. Once again, I thank you all. I rise”

However, as he made attempt to rise, Tejuosho quickly took to the microphone saying: “Mr. Speaker, before you rise, I need to let you know this; I want to turn down that Committee on Judiciary.

“I feel that there is no regard for me in this House. And I will not be victimised.”

While she said this, Obasa walked pass her and others out of the chamber.

Our correspondent noted that while some of the lawmakers were excited, some others, especially the old lawmakers are not happy as some of them got committees considered less juicy.

“Can you imagine that 14 new lawmakers got committees out of the 32 committees and some of these committees are very important while some of us got nothing but shock?”

“I know in the coming days, some of my colleagues would reject theirs too even though the Speaker has told us that the list arose from a meeting with stakeholders,” one of the grieving members said.

BUHARI MINISTER-DESIGNATE NOW GOVERNOR OF TARABA STATE

Recall that during the ministerial screening of Hajia (Senator)  Jummai Alhassan, she took her time explaining about her case at the tribunal. Just so you know, she won her case at the tribunal. So what happens to her Designation as a minister,  I leave you to ponder over that.
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja today annulled the election of Darius Ishaku as the governor of Taraba State and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Jummai Alhassan as the winner of the April 12, 2015 governorship election.
Alhassan, already a minister-designate, had approached the tribunal with claims that the election was flawed and her counsels were able to convince the judges at the tribunal, presenting clear evidences some against the law of INEC.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi, relying on the report of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ruled that Governor Ishaku was not properly nominated as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the Governorship election.
INEC said that the PDP didn’t conduct any primary election for the Taraba State Governorship Election.
The tribunal then returned Alhassan of APC as the duly elected Governor of Taraba State, having secured the second highest votes during the election.
The PDP however is yet to give a statement about the judgement but you can be sure the court of appeal will soon hear the case.
In the mean time, congratulations Senator Alhassan.

DOES YOUR DATE OF BIRTH REALLY DEFINE YOU - READ MORE

Horoscope sometimes get it right and some other time it's totally wrong.  What we however cannot deny is the fact that it is right most of the time.  Whatever mythical angle this stems from,  it sure gets you and I thinking about who we are and/or who we are not.

Now it's carefully broken down to date of birth,  the calender day you were actually given birth to,  does it tally... I leave you to be the judge.

                                              Born On The 1st

I RAN #2 BILLION ILLEGAL ACCOUNT FOR FORMER PENSION BOSS - SAYS BANKER

A Fidelity Bank Account Officer Toyin Meseke,has told detectives how she ran five  accounts used to perpetrate a N2bilion pension fraud in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Former Pension Reform Task Team chief Abdulrasheed Maina is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the alleged pension fraud.

EFCC’s investigators found that withdrawals from the five accounts were usually channelled through some bureaux de change to an account in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Meseke spilled the beans on how the accounts were managed by a suspected pension fraud syndicate.
Meseke said:

“I managed Nafisatu Aliyu, Cluster Logistics and Abdullahi Faizal for Abdulrasheed Maina as soon as his brother, Khalid Aliyu, left the bank three years ago.

 “Though all the three accounts do not carry Abdulrasheed Maina’s name but I carried out instruction on the accounts for him as explained to me by his brother that   Abdulrasheed Maina owns all funds in the accounts before he resigned from the bank.

“He is not a signatory to the three accounts mentioned. He usually called me on my phone number -08057465698 – to carry out instruction on all the three accounts.

“And he also sent e-mail instructions through his email gajipeace@gmail.com to my personal email freshicekiddy@yahoo.com  to carry out instructions. Thereafter, he would send someone to the bank to give me a form of regularisation on the transactions done on all the three accounts.

“Sometimes when it is getting too late to regularize, I would call to remind him and asked me to come to his house in Kado to receive the regularised cheques.

“Most time, precisely on two occasions, I received the already signed regularised cheques in an enveloped sealed at the gate of his house.

“On 3/10/14, Abdulrasheed sent an instruction to debit Cluster Logistics with the sum of N15, 870, 690 and credit to a Bureau De Change account (JIEK BDC). This amount was converted to US dollars for onward delivery to him. I don’t know, I cannot remember the USD equivalent.

“Also on May 2, 2014, Abdulrasheed Maina sent a mail carrying instruction that the sum of N33, 880,000 be debited from the same Cluster Logistics and transferred to a Bureau De Change (West Waves). This was converted by the BDC customer and delivered to him.

“He scanned and sent another instruction on May 6, 2014 to me to debit Cluster Logistics with N47, 500, 00 and credit to BDC Customer, West Waves BDC who converted and sent to him.

“On the transaction that took place on July 3, 2015 in Abdullahi Faizal, he (Abdulrasheed Maina) sent an e-mail that the account be liquidated and converted to US dollars (USD). So, I got a bureau de change customer to convert the sum of N108million for him.”

Regarding accounts opened in the names of Kangolo and Drew Investment, Meseke added:

“I am not sure who the account officers are. Sometimes last year, I got to know that Abdulrasheed Maina owns these accounts. I have never initiated any transaction on these accounts.”

Meseke also confirmed that Maina was operating a safe deposit box with the bank. She, however, said Maina has sole access to the box.

She added:

“As for the safe deposit box, I got to know that Maina maintained a safe deposit box after I joined in 2011 when he came to access his box and that the box had been in existence before I joined the bank in 2008. The last time I saw him coming to access his box was in 2013 but I cannot remember the exact month.”

Yesterday Maina’s lawyer Mrs Esther Uzoma, said:

“We are waiting for the amended charges which the EFCC said contained the allegations.

“The EFCC has been saying that Maina operated slush accounts but they have not shown us any evidence.”

In a statement on Tuesday in Abuja she said:

“The EFCC should come clean on the matter of my client, Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina. When I appeared before His Lordship, Justice Kolawole on July 21, I made it clear that the EFCC was yet to file any charge as well as serve any summons on Dr. Maina.

“It is trite law that you cannot say an accused is on the run when there is no charge preferred against him or any invitation extended to him.

“During the hearing for the bail application, counsel to the EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), wanted the court to direct me to produce Maina in court at the next sitting but I argued that there are clear procedures, which the EFCC is familiar with and should follow.

“Naturally, the court agreed with my submission on the position of law. Therefore, it is misleading for the EFCC in its statement of Monday to mislead the public that there exists an order for Maina to be produced in court when there is no invitation extended to him let alone a charge preferred against him by the commission.

LINK YOUR BANK VERIFICATION NUMBER (BVN) TO OTHER BANK VIA ATM

THE WORK OF RESTORATION AND RENEWAL IS URGENT AND IMMENSE - BUHARI TO MINISTERS

President Muhammadu Buhari

The Nation and of course her citizens had waited for well  over five months on the President to constitute his cabinet, the ministers that would help him drive his policies and actualize the promises made to the Nigerian masses in their party's manifesto during the election campaign.

Finally the first list of would  be ministers were submitted to the Senate at about the end of September,  and with so much theatrics from the Senate all nominees were screened and confirmed.

It is in this light the President invited the confirmed ministers (yet to be assigned port folio)  to a retreat at the state house conference Hall to intimate them about his expectation on working relationship as well as a guideline on operations and delivery.

Read the presidential address to minister  designate below.

OPENING REMARKS BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI AT THE PRESIDENTIAL RETREAT WITH HONOURABLE MINISTERS-DESIGNATE,STATE HOUSE CONFERENCE HALL,
NOVEMBER 5, 2015

PROTOCOLS
It is with great pleasure that I address you today, my Ministers-designate, at this Retreat in preparation for your swearing–in as the Cabinet that will run this Administration. We must count ourselves privileged to have been chosen among millions of our compatriots at this historic time to be the instruments that will deliver the change we have promised.

2. Let me congratulate you for your success at the various levels of screening that culminated in your confirmation by the Senate.
I would like to reiterate the point I made at my inauguration about the uniqueness of this moment for our country and for us. Shakespeare’s words ring true for us as they did when he first wrote them centuries ago.

‘There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which taken at the flood leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.’

3. The work of restoration and renewal is urgent and immense. The expectations of Nigerians are high. Our determination to succeed and change the fortunes of our country must be equal to the challenge.

4. I have invited you to join me in this urgent mission for our country. I am convinced that in accepting this invitation you are also equally determined to take part in this patriotic undertaking.

5. This Retreat, therefore, marks your first official contact with the machinery of Government, of which you will soon be an integral part. It is important that you are fully acquainted with the direction and priorities of this Government so that we can all move together as a team.

6. My election as President of this country was hinged on my promise to tackle corruption, insecurity and revive the economy.

7. We have already taken deliberate measures to plug leakages of government revenue and resources. You all know the steps we have taken to tackle Boko Haram. We have degraded them and in desperation, they are resorting to attacks on soft targets, killing innocent people. Diversification of the economy away from oil will be a major focus of this government. We will intervene in mining and agriculture and upgrade the country’s physical and social infrastructure, which will broaden our revenue base and significantly improve the level of employment, especially among the youth. Our economic focus will be policies that will ensure inclusive growth and we will count our achievements based on the number of Nigerians we move out of poverty.

8. The objective of this retreat is clearly reflected in the choice of topics which you will be dealing with during the sessions. The need for observing the rule of law is being emphasized to ensure that impunity is removed from government conduct.

9.   You are coming on board the ship of governance at an interesting time. So much has been said about the state of our economy.  It is expected that we make the running of Government at all levels as lean as possible, avoid waste and conserve resources. As Ministers, you must be the vehicle that will administer the change.

10.   Our main task is to turn our manifesto promises to practice and results. Over the next two days I expect you to have a better understanding of the context in which we have taken the challenge of serving our country, as well as the strategies we have adopted to tackle them. I would also expect you to be even more determined to work as a team, and to live up to the high standards of probity and integrity which Nigerians expect of us.

11.    Before I close, let me remind you that clear and effective communication at all levels is vital in modern management. You must keep in touch with your fellow ministers and share information, so that the conduct of government will be more efficient. In addition, all communication and appointments from you to the Presidency should be routed through the Office of the Chief of Staff as is normal in this Presidential System.

I wish you useful deliberations.

President Muhammadu Buhari
