The Lagos State Government has announced that academic activities for Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, Primary and Nursery Schools for both government and privately owned should commence on the 8th of October, 2014.
This announcement was made in an interactive session with the Principals and Vice principals secondary schools as well as Head teachers and Head mistress of primary and nursery schools for both government and privately owned schools.
The Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola informed that the September 22nd resumption date still holds but resumption will be only for administrative purposes to include ensuring that all necessary training and facilities to prevent the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease are put in place.
In addition, he said that it would allow the children observe the forth coming Eid celebration for the Muslims which is likely to come up for October 4th, 2014.
He promised that everything necessary to ensure safety of lives will be provided. Mr. Adesegun Raheem, the state chairman for NUT in his response said, they appreciate all the efforts of the state government and the teachers are prepared, noting that, anytime academics work commences they will catch up.
Meanwhile other states like Osun have said their resumption will be for October 6, while the NUT chairman for Kwara state, Mr. Musa Abubakar insists that they will not resume today.
