Engr. (Dr.) KADRI OBAFEMI HAMZAT
Dr.
Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is a product of the University of Ibadan where he
graduated with B.Sc. Honours, Second Class Upper Division in
Agricultural Engineering (1986) and M.Sc. in Crop Processing Engineering
(1988). He thereafter proceeded to the famous Silsoe College, Cranfield
University, England where he obtained a Ph.D. in System Process
Engineering in 1992. To his credit, he was the first student to complete
his doctoral degree within three years in his Department at Cranfield.
He also holds a certificate in Computer/Windows Programming (1995) of
the Baruch College City University of New York, USA.
A professional engineer, thorough-bred systems integrator, seasoned administrator and consummate manager of men and materials, Engr. Dr. Hamzat has had over two decades of work experience in diverse areas of engineering practice including project management, computer networking, enterprise system assessment, engineering system design and implementation. He has, during this period, held enviable positions in different world-class international organizations, including the following:

- Consultant on System and Infrastructural Upgrade, Citibank NA/Compaq Computer Services, New York, USA, June 1997 – September 1999.
- Adjunct Professor, CTA Programme, Columbia University, New York, USA, September 1998 – June 2000.
- Vice-President, Core Technology Support Group, Merrill Lynch Inc., New York, USA, October 1999– July 2002.

In recognition of his versatility and global experience in engineering practice and ICT development and deployment, Engr. Dr. Hamzat was appointed the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Science & Technology, Lagos State in August 2005, a position he held with distinction till June 2011. Thereafter, he was reappointed Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola Administration on the 4th of July, 2011.
Dr. Hamzat has an advantage in his father. His
father, Olatunji Hamzat is an influential politician in Lagos State who
served as a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and also
as a former Commissioner for Transportation in the state (1979 – 1983)
before becoming the one time Vice-Chairman South West of then Alliance
for Democracy (AD). Olatunji Hamzat later became the Lagos West
Senatorial District leader of the Action Congress, an elder statesman in
the Action Congress and a coronated king through his maternal royal
lineage (in Ogun State).
Dr. Hamzat emerged the winner of the fifth edition of the Lagos State Man of the Year Awards in September 2013. In 2005, he advocated for the creation of a forensic laboratory that would provide better evidence in the adjudication of criminal cases and unsolved murders in the state.
He is happily married to Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat and the union is blessed with children
