Oscar pistorius is a South African sprint runner born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1986. He was born without a Fibula in either of his legs, and so his legs were amputated below the knee before he turned one.
He competed in several school sports and took up running at the age of 16, won a gold medal at the Athens 2004, paralympics. He was initially banned from international competition but he successfully appealed the ruling and became the first amputee to compete in the Olympics in at the 2012 summer games in London. Early 2013, Oscar Pistorius admitted to shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp (a South African model) at his home in South Africa.
The case has been in court since then and he has been facing a likely murder charge. Just yesterday during the ruling on his case, judge Thokocile Masipa ruled that Oscar Pistorius was not found guilty of murder. In her words " There are not enough facts to support the theory that he (Oscar) intended to kill girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp". However, he could still be found guilty of culpable homicide and three (3) gun related charges when proceeding resumes. Oscar Pistorius had argued that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder in his home and accidentally shot her on valentine's day of 2013.
