I FEAR FOR NIGERIA

If you are conversant with the news recently, particularly on the issue of Boko Haram, you would remember that the Australian negotiator, A Perth-based international adviser, Dr. Stephen Davis, who for four months was involved in negotiations on behalf of the federal government with commanders of Boko Haram for the release of over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the sect last April, named a former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, as sponsors of Boko Haram.

He also disclosed that a man resident in Abuja, whose three nephews had been identified as being behind the Nyanya bus station bomb blast that killed 77 people, was one of the financiers of Boko Haram.

But in a swift reaction to the allegation, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff angrily dismissed the allegation (as expected), saying they had nothing to benefit from the sponsorship of Boko Haram.

Meanwhile, the Department of State Security boss, Marilyn Ogar addressing members of press today spoke specifically in defense of Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika …this was shocking to me. Don’t get me wrong, I have not said Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika is guilty but correct me if am wrong, if the DSS that is supposed to question a man speaks in its defense, then there is nothing to question.

Her argument, “Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika was involved in the chase of Boko Haram sect from main towns of Borno to Sambisa forest; He has served the nation meritoriously and as such cannot be involved with such”. I thought the process of investigation/interrogation should speak for itself, and her submission on him should be a result of interrogation with him.

If Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika cannot be involved, what gives the DSS the impression that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff could be involved with financing the sect. If you have invited Senator Ali Modu Sheriff twice and yet there in nothing to nail him, what will inviting him the third time yield while you assume someone you had not invited before be exonerated.
