MARINE BRIDGE IN APAPA SHUTDOWN FOR REPAIR WORK - LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

Respite should come to the commuters and inhabitants of Apapa axis of the state as the Lagos State Government announced the closure of the Marine Bridge Road (Inward Ijora) to prepare for the commencement of repair works by the contractors of the Federal Ministry of Works.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transport, Dayo Mobereola, it stated that the emergency and immediate closure is to also allow the Federal Ministry carryout studies to determine the state of the Bridge and effect appropriate repairs.

The state Government has put in place effective traffic management strategies that will mitigate the impact of the closure. Accordingly, the following routes can be use by commuters as alternate route. They are:

  1. Traffic coming from Wharf Base/Point Road should divert at service Lane (Marine Beach Road) by Leventis Junction to Link Lilly Pond by Dockyard and ascend Ijora Bridge to continue their journey.
  2. Motorists traveling to Ajegunle should take a left turn at the second junction under the Apapa Road Bridge to Marine Beach Junction inward Ajegunle or back to Ijora Bridge and continue their journey.

It was however made clear in the statement that the options are not to be used by heavy duty vehicles. The State Government implored National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG) and its members to observe the reroute especially so as not to block the road when accessing the Tank Farms at Lilly Pond.

The State Government among other initiatives deployed various signages directing traffic appropriately. It is equally important to ask motorist to please obey personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies deployed to control and manage traffic in the area.

We hope that this ease the pains commuters face day-in-day-out.

FG TO PAY WORKERS N293bn FOR ALLOWANCES, BENEFITS, AND SO ON

Winifred Oyo-Ita, Head Civil Service

Some respite may be on the way for Federal Government Workers as the Federal Government is planning a phased method of clearing the backlogs.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita has said that Government is exploring phased payments of Federal Civil Servants’ benefits, incurred through service wide staff claims, particularly those bothering on promotion arrears, first 28 days, repatriation allowance and death benefits, among others, which amounts to about N293bn.

Speaking at a press conference, held in her office in Abuja, as part of the activities marking the 2016 Civil Service Week, Oyo-Ita said President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Minister of Finance and Office of Accountant General of the Federation to explore ways of making the payments.
She said Government has, till this moment, not been able to pay the claims, largely because of the financial challenges presently facing the country.

She added that the affected workers will be paid their benefit claims after the conclusion of the phased payment formula, that is being reconciled in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

She assured that staff welfare would be addressed from many fronts, noting that the Service was exploring the possibility of providing bulk payments of rent allowances for workers within this financial year. Mrs. Oyo-Ita stated further that a committee has been set up on national salary review, and would sit with relevant stakeholders to take a decision on pay rise, adding that there was no plan to retrench workers, saying “it is cruel to throw people into the labour market.”

SITUATION REPORT FROM AREPO AND IKORODU AREAS....

"The Lagos and Ogun state militants are remnants of those who have been bursting NNPC pipelines at ISAWO/AGRIC area in Ikorodu and Arepo. These men started with few 50litres jerry cans of petrol with each one selling at #3,000.00k. They lived in single rooms. It's so cheap because the business require no investment beyond the costs of the black 50litre plastic containers or the cost of d yellow 25litres plastics containers.

They made excess money and created a micro economy thriving on illegality within Ikorodu. Soon they enjoyed the patronage of the Police by supplying Police stations with generators and fuel to power the Police stations free of charges!

The militants now started hiring duplexes. The men in black also collected the "ones for Oga to use for house". Soon the boys started supplying some filling stations with 33000 liter tankers! The Police saw this as bigger business and wanted a bigger portion of the pie.

Sharing formulas were agreed. Soon, parties disagreed. Police were killed. Beneficiaries of the business suspected to be owners of filling stations assisted with "upfront funds" with which these guys bought light weapons which were later upgraded and they became big players.

The Police were seen as parasites without any value. The owners of tankers and agents wanted more and to achieve that, the parasites must be eliminated.  They wanted everything on the value chain.

As at that time, the Government looked the other way because, according to the people, the militants were "brothers" of the man in bowler hat who reigned as Commander- in-Chief of Nigeria as at that time. These militants nourished the patronage of alcohol and women of easy virtues at the Isawo-Agric area of Ikorodu-Lagos. They became emboldened and walked on the streets with their weapons.

Their original purpose of kidnapping young pretty women was for rape! The Police have compromised. There's so much money. Young girls were assaulted and wives of notable figures were picked up and raped. Later, bigger money commanded better women who moved into the vicinity from Benin and Port Harcourt.

The need to rape became extinguished. Nothing happened to them for previous rapes and kidnapping. They've got the chunk of beef in bowler hat at the helm in Abuja. He's Ijaw too.

Then came President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB). Soldiers were moved in and not allowed to stay too long and become compromised or uncontrollably corrupt b4 being withdrawn and new troops used in replacing them.

It became very difficult to operate for the militants. They killed scores of Policemen, SSS and Soldiers. The forces became easy and cheap targets due to their earlier complicity. The noose was tightened and they simply changed the purpose of kidnapping from the hitherto "kidnapping for rape" to kidnapping for ransoms. Targets became wider than women!

Flamboyant pastors and known middle class were targeted within Ikorodu. They paid handsomely. They paid and nourished the business. Kidnappings became even more lucrative than oil theft. It only requires targets and money will flow. Timidity and ability of the people was the key to their wallets.

Soldiers were drafted once again, this time for a total "war" involving troops, tanks and heavy weapons. In the last 3 days, scores of the militants have been killed and their bodies removed. It's speculated that over 100 were killed. Thanks to the money-bags of LASG Security Trust Funds. Can u believe that the night operation of a combined team of Police RRS strike force, soldiers and Civil Defense Corp Officers, assisted by local OPC with local knowledge of the area were used as required by the Nigerian Air Force fighter helicopters?

It's been like a war situation but these militants are just cowards. They get killed easily at escape points. I had engaged 2 members of the "Combined Strike Force officers" and the news now is good. The security apparatus of the LASG/FG have fully taken over! The clean up may however continue for the next few days".

It is hope that the Federal Government will sustain the total assault on these disgruntled/satanic elements and send  a clear signal to other enemies of the government and the good people of Nigeria that no individual or group is more superior than the Nigerian Govt and her Armed Forces.

AN APOLOGY TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

I AM SORRY, MR. PRESIDENT....

Written by Salako A. Daniel.

President Muhammadu Buhari

I may not have voiced it at the time but I must confess I was really very angry with President Muhammadu Buhari back then when the budget was taking too long to be passed. At a time, while rejecting to sign the budget, he travelled out of the country looking as though he was insensitive and high-handed*. Now I know better; now I am fully convinced that the man is God-sent and the right man at the right time in the history of our nation.

Reading the full statement of HON. ABDULMUMIN JIBRIN, former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, detailing how they padded the budget with well over N200billion, I must confess it made me feel dizzy and dazed at the same time. Just imagine that these sort of things have been going on for ages make me want to vomit.

Its no wonder then that President Obasanjo was so vocal in calling all legislatures thieves years ago. *They didn’t bother to take him on because they know he knows them and can expose more. No doubt, if it wasn’t for Buhari and his eagle-eyed deputies, the same scenario would have played out itself and we will still be looking at those rogues in the National Assembly as saints, whereas they have milked us dry.

It is with this background that I tender my unreserved apology to Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari. If there is one thing he needs, it is our full support in what he and his vice. Prof. Osinbajo are doing to put our nation in the right track after such a mindless banditry committed against it by the "PEOPLE OF THE UMBRELLA".

Mr. President, I am sorry for not giving you the benefit of the doubt; for not believing totally the reasons for your refusal to sign the budget earlier; for not fully grasping the fact that you know the behind the scenes more than we do; for not acknowledging that you are doing it for our collective good. !

Mr. President, once again I am sorry!
