LASUSU GIVES LASU MGT ULTIMATION TO CALL OFF RECESS
The Lagos State University student union government on behalf of the entire students has given a two day ultimatum to the LASU Mgt to call off the recess it declared so academic activities can resume.
On the 23rd of March, 2015 the LASU Mgt had communicated to staff and students via a text message that a recess had been declared, the text reads
"LASU Mgt declares recess for 2015 general elections from Monday 23-03-2015. Staff and students are to vacate campus henceforth..."
It might interest you to know that the 2015 general elections ended on 11th May, 2015, now nineteen (19) days afterwards. To this effect, the student union government gave an ultimatum to LASU Mgt to reopen the school in a release by the union government, read below.
"RE: LASU MANAGEMENT MEETS WITH ALL FULL-TIME STUDENTS.
Sequel to the stake holders meeting held on Monday 27th April, 2015 at the Faculty of Law reading room between the students union executives and the students populace, it was resolved that 48hrs ultimatum be issued to Lagos State Govt and the LASU management for the Reopening of Lasu for academic and administrative activities. Hence, any default in such will amount to a peaceful protest to the Governor's Office against the declared recess.
It is imperative to bring to the notice of all LASUites that, having received the message of the Management of LASU with the above named title, the Students' Union sees this as another attempt or means to forestall our plans, as the priority of the students is not meeting with the Management of LASU again but rather to #ReOpenLasuNow.
It is pertinent to ask this salient questions that; what is it that they want to get across to the students that would require a meeting @ LTV 8 Hall, that they cannot put on their website has they have done on Sunday to further validate the declared recess?, Secondly, why is it that they called for the meeting after the issuance of 48hrs ultimatum given to them by the Students' Union?
We have met with the Management of LASU for countless times on the issue of resumption, and they were never forthcoming with regards to the Reopening of LASU, and all they could say now is to meet with our students to forestall our plans rather than reopening the citadel for academic activities.
Greatest LASUites, let us tell the Management of LASU that meeting or no meeting, the Students' Union of LASU still remains resolute on the issued ultimatum and the Reopening of LASU.
The Union is less concerned about meeting with the management of LASU again, all we are concerned is the Reopening of the citadel of learning. Therefore, the management of LASU should do the needful by meeting with all forces involved in the closure of the school and reopened the citadel".
This was in response to the call by the LASU management directing all students to meet with her, today at LTV hall, Ikeja.
We keep our fingers crossed , eyes on the look out and ears to the ground to get you updated as soon as news filters in.
