BEWARE OF BIRD FLU

Bird flu (scientifically refered to as Avian Influenza) is an infectious viral disease from bird. Humans are infected mostly from consumption of birds (mostly chicken - as it is widely consumed member of the bird family).

According to the Nigerian minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adeshina, Bird flu has been confirmed in Nigeria, with about seven states so far. The states with the infection are Lagos, Kano, Edo, Ogun, Rivers,Delta, and Plateau with Kano and Lagos been the highest casualty so far.

He informed that both Kano and Lagos state have been taken care of while adequate measures have been put in place to curtail the spread from the remaining affected states.

He however advised Nigerians to ensure proper hygiene by washing hands thoroughly and make sure their chicken are well cooked before consumption if they cannot stay away from it for now.
