AMBODE CANCELS RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT ON SANITATION DAY

The lagos state government says it has cancelled the order on restriction of movement of persons and vehicles during environmental sanitation days in the state. This is was made known by the state Commissioner for environment, Babatunde Adejare, during the ministry’s monthly media chat in Lagos. He disclosed that the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has decided that the state cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period 3 hours.

Mr. Adejare noted that environmental sanitation should rather be a daily exercise and charged residents to make it a way of life. The commissioner also vowed to shut down markets violating the state’s environmental laws in 7 days.

LAHA APPROVES COMMISSIONER FOR LASIEC

As Lagos State commences preparations for election into local government councils in the state, the state House of Assembly has confirmed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s nominees for the board membership of the Lagos Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC.

The four members of the board confirmed by the lawmakers include Dr. Olubunmi Omosehindemi, Lateef Raji, Chief (Mrs.) Sekinat Famakinwa, and Mr. Aiyedun Olusegun Fasi.

The Clerk of the House was directed to communicate the confirmation to the governor through a letter.

Their confirmation came after lawmakers commended the nominees for their consistency and loyalty to their fatherland.

Dr. Omosehindemi was commended for his exploits in alternative medicine even as an orthodox medical doctor and for his role in fighting the past military government of Nigeria before the current civilian dispensation came into existence in 1999.

Lateef Raji was also praised for being an activist who fought for the current democracy and for his performances under the last government as the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

The Speaker observed that all the nominees have done well in their various fields of endeavour and stressed that the House of Assembly does not doubt their ability to put in their best for the state in organising credible elections at the local government level.



FG approves 14 solar projects to generates 2,260 megawatts - Fashola

THE Federal government, on Tuesday, announced the approval of 14 solar projects, which would generate about 2,260 megawatts, with a view to easing problems of epileptic power supply in the country.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Raji Babatunde Fashola announced this during a meeting with French Minister of Environment and Power, Mrs S. Royal at the Conference Room of the ministry in Abuja.

Mr Fashola, who received the French minister, alongside with his counterpart from the Ministry of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, said financial agreement has already been approved, while every necessary step to fast track the projects would commence soon.

He, therefore, called for the establishment of more solar panel factors in Nigeria, saying assembling and manufacturing them here would reduce the cost.
